Learn the easiest and cheapest way to reach an organization's quality standard, starting with "management's desire" as a percentage success rate that gets the needed return on investment. Work backward from this number to the needed Cpk and Ppk to meet "management's desire". Then break this into what the standard deviation needs to be on each of the applicable specification limits. Now that we know the needed standard deviation, evaluate the machines capable of this "sigma critical" and monitor this measure to ensure its never violated. Using this method, learn to create and then maintain the original "management’s desire". From my perspective, this is the essence of quality engineering. I look forward to having you as one of my students, at least for the one-hour lecture.
